报告摘要

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The study of tidal physics is crucial for understanding binary systems and stellar interiors, as tidal interactions depend on both orbital configurations and stellar structures. Investigating tides can provide insights into the evolutionary history of binaries and the internal structures of stars. The standard approach to calculating tidal effects involves parameterized equations that approximate how tides modify a binary orbit. However, this method often underestimates the circularization rate and overestimates the rate of orbital shrinking. Our extended code, GYRE-tides, avoids these limitations by numerically solving the tidal equations without approximations, offering a more accurate analysis of binary systems. In this talk, I will introduce the functionalities of GYRE-tides, present code comparison results, and discuss additional applications.
报告人简介:
Meng Sun is an associate scientist at the National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) and a member of the 3D Structure of the Milky Way Research Group. Her research focuses on theoretical astrophysics, including stellar evolution, binary evolution, asteroseismology, and tidal physics. She is a core developer of GYRE_TIDES and POSYDON (the next-generation binary population synthesis code). Additionally, she is a long-term user of the MESA code, with over ten years of experience, and has been invited twice to teach at the MESA Summer School. Dr. Sun received her Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Virginia in 2018. She subsequently worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA) at Northwestern University, as a CIERA postdoctoral fellow. Her research spans a wide range of astrophysical objects, including blue stragglers, white dwarfs, solar-like stars, and exoplanets.
