The Vertical Shear Instability (VSI) is a robust hydrodynamic instability that occurs within a range of tens to hundreds of astronomical units in protoplanetary disks (PPDs), significantly impacting disk accretion and evolution. The Rossby Wave Instability (RWI) has the capability to generate anticyclonic vortices, effectively trapping dust and thereby promoting dust concentration and growth. Simultaneously, the Streaming Instability (SI) offers a promising mechanism for creating strong dust clumps, which contribute to the formation of planetesimals in PPDs. In this study, we utilize the newly developed multifluid dust module in Athena++ to conduct 2D and 3D global simulations, showcasing the coexistence of VSI, SI, and RWI within protoplanetary disks. Although the weak zonal flows induced by VSI and the subtle dusty vortices arising from RWI may not achieve complete dust trapping, these mild pressure variations do make significant contributions to dust clumping driven by SI. When all three instabilities coexist, they result in more pronounced dust clumping compared to scenarios where only a single instability is active.

报告人简介:

Pinghui Huang graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Jinan University in Guangzhou in 2013. In 2019, he obtained a Ph.D. in Astrometry and Celestial Mechanics from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Purple Mountain Observatory, Nanjing). From 2017 to 2019, he was a visiting scholar at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Rice University in the United States. From 2019 to 2022, he conducted postdoctoral research in collaboration with Professor Xuening Bai at the Institute for Advanced Study, Tsinghua University, Beijing. Since 2023, he has been collaborating on postdoctoral research with Professor Ruobing Dong at the University of Victoria, Canada. His research interests include planetary science, planet formation and planetesimal formation, (magneto) hydrodynamic instabilities, planet-disk interactions, and computational astrophysics.
