报告题目：Adventure between the known and the unknown in Time-domain Radio Astronomy

Historically, most of spectacular astronomical discoveries were serendipities, including the discoveries of pulsars and fast radio bursts (FRBs). Different from the past, emerging mega-science facilities challenge us on how to find the unknown unknowns when we are searching for the known unknowns in high-time resolution radio data. In this talk, I will basically present the works I have been conducting on FRBs, pulsars and finding the unknown. The first half is focused on the known, including some theoretical and observational studies on FRBs and pulsars. In the late half, I will be talking about the finding the unknown project. A software package for simulating all kinds of radio signals will be presented, and some Machine Learning uses based on this is in progresses. In the end, I will share my outlook on the future of time-domain radio astronomy.

报告人简介： 

Rui Luo is a Chinese radio astronomer, who always dedicates to finding interesting stuff with large radio telescopes in the world. He earned his Ph.D. in astrophysics at Peking University in 2019, then he was a postdoctoral fellow at CSIRO Space and Astronomy and Australia Telescope National Facility from 2019 to 2022. Since 2023, he has become an Associate Professor of Astronomy at Guangzhou University. Rui's research interests cover a wide range of time-domain sciences in radio astronomy, including fast radio bursts (FRBs), pulsars, radio frequency interference and possible unknown unknowns in radio data. In particular, his research expertise lies in studying FRBs from any aspects.
