The Maidanak Observatory of the UBAI of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan is one of the high-altitude observatories in terms of astroclimate, image quality and the number of clear nights comparable to the southern observatories of ESO. Observations are carried out at Maidanak under a number of international programs of gravitational lenses, AGNs and blazars, variable binary stars, supernova searches, etc. In 2021, observations of binary interacting stars began under a joint Uzbek-Chinese project: “Investigations and observations of special LAMOST eclipsing binaries based on telescopes in Uzbekistan and China”.

Ildar Asfandiyarov, senior researcher at UBAI, PhD in astrophysics on gravitational lensing of quasars, development of equipment for telescopes, PI of the international Uzbekistan-China project.
