Abstract:
Multi-Application Solar Telescope (MAST) is a 50 sm clear aperture solar telescope which is installed at the lake site of Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO). The telescope has an off-axis alt-azimuth design, to provide a low scattered-light performance. The complete telescope including the control system has been built by AMOS, Belgium. Among the main back end instruments, a narrow band imager has been developed for near simultaneous observations of the solar atmosphere at different heights. The heart of this system is two LiNbO3 Fabry-Perot (FP) etalons working in tandem. The development of other back-end instruments, namely, an echelle-scanning spectrograph capable of observing simultaneously in at least two spectral lines and a polarimeter is also under progress. In addition, a prototype adaptive-optics system for seeing correction has been developed at USO which includes the image stabilization system and calibration of wavefront sensor and deformable mirror. This will be installed in conjunction with the MAST telescope. The scientific objectives, design aspects and the current status of the above instruments will be discussed in my talk.
