报告题目:Evidence in White Light of Post-CME Current Sheet -- Mostly Observational
报告摘要:
Magnetic reconnection plays a fundamental role in solar flares, it converts magnetic energy into heat and the kinetic energy of the plasma. In the classical reconnection model, oppositely directed magnetic field lines are stretched to form a current sheet where they reconnect. In many observations, such as those made by SOHO LASCO and MLSO MK4, both from the space and ground, reconnecting current sheets have been frequently observed. So far using existing observational approaches and technologies, we are able to look into detailed properties of the current sheet, including the brightness and the thickness. In this talk, I will review previous observations of SMM and LASCO white light rays trailing CMEs, and then through some “famous” events, show the measurement of rays trailing SMM concave-outward CMEs, for testing the hypothesis that rays are current sheet due to reconnection following CME/flux ropes.
